The Valve-Foxconn Scale of Employers
In case you haven’t seen it, the Valve Employee handbook has been circulating on the web recently and making a lot of games developers slightly green with envy. This is in stark contrast to Foxconn, who, in fairness, do eventually seem to be beginning to improve conditions (moving employees from the ninth to the eighth circle of hell).

Best said with a Northern accent
If you don’t know what an accent from the North of England sounds like, just imagine Sean Bean saying this.
In fact, it’s probably best to imagine that about most things; it will make them much more interesting – tax bill? Sean Bean. Junk mail? Sean Bean.
Speaking of facts – St. Paul never met Jesus (while Jesus was alive). Instead, he became an apostle after a divine, post-Jesus-mortem revelation. Due to this apparently being possible, I wonder why Jesus stopped at twelve? If you’re going to start adding post-script apostles then you might as well keep on going.
Anyway, see you Friday!

I think, therefore I am
‘Cogito ergo sum’, or ‘I think, therefore I am’, is probably the most famous example of the use of ‘therefore’. It demonstrates that there needs to be a logical connection between the initial data and the conclusion. I see a lot of essays that try to sound more convincing by implying a causal link exists when there is, at best, a correlation. Just check that the data really does prove that the conclusion (or deducation based on the data) is actually a logical extrapolation: does the data really prove what you are saying? If not then never use the word ‘therefore’. I hope this helps a few people.
Don’t worry, I’ll be back to telling jokes on Monday, see you then!
